FA Cup Final
Michael Ballack put Chelsea into the FA Cup final by scoring in extra time Sunday and giving his team a 2-1 win over Blackburn. Ballack scored from the left side after Salomon Kalou's shot was blocked in the 109th minute.
Frank Lampard gave Chelsea the lead at Old Trafford with his 21st goal of the season in the 16th minute, but Jason Roberts equalized for Blackburn in the 64th.
Chelsea will face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 19 -- the first major match to be played at the new Wembley Stadium since it reopened after more than six years under construction.
The two teams could play each other three times in two weeks.
"We can share trophies between us. We can win nothing and in spite of that Chelsea and Man United are two unbelievable teams," Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said (soccer stuff).
United, which leads the Premier League with 78 points, visits second-place Chelsea on May 9 in the penultimate round of the season in what could be a title-deciding game.
Drogba & Ronaldo up For Award<
Premier League leading scorers Didier Drogba and Cristiano Ronaldo are among the nominations for the PFA Player of the Year award.
Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard and Cesc Fabregas were also on the list released Monday by the Professional Football Association, the union for soccer players in England..
Drogba, the Chelsea and Ivory Coast forward, leads the Premier League with 18 goals this season.
"Didier has, arguably, been Chelsea's best and most consistent performer this season," PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said. "No mean achievement when he is playing alongside so many top-class players at Stamford Bridge."
Ronaldo, with 16 league goals, has also had an outstanding season at Manchester United after helping Portugal to a fourth place finish in the 2006 World Cup.
The 22-year-old winger was nominated alongside teammates Giggs and Scholes, making United the only team with more than one nomination.
"Cristiano is the most exciting player in the country at the moment," Taylor said (soccer stuff).
Gerrard, the Liverpool midfielder who won in 2006, was nominated again. Fabregas, Arsenal's 19-year-old midfielder, also made the shortlist.
The 34th edition of the award ceremony is to be held on April 22.
Fabregas and Ronaldo were also nominated for the Young Player of the Year award, along with United forward Wayne Rooney, 21, who won the award in 2005 and 2006.
